A Wee Interview with Paul Smith

Nomads very own flame haired wonder returned to Orlingbury Road towards the back end of 08/09 season, almost 5 years to the day after being sacked following a poor run of results back in 2004. With skin as thick as a rhino, Smith waltzed back into the club, but this time on the playing staff, fresh from being sacked as Thrapson manager (for refusing to die his hair brown).

With an illustrious career that has seen him clock up injury after injury, Smith is now back and trying to prove once and for all that is he is not the worst dressed player in Nomads history. With an uncanny knack of always looking like he has a coat hanger still in his shirt, a vast array of shapeless grey boxer shorts and the ability to turn even the smartest outfit into one which looks like it has been dragged through a hedge backwards, Smith is not one to keep up with the latest trends in fashion. Over a carton of Um bungo, Smith shares his thoughts and memories for us all to enjoy.....

Name:                   Paul "Piddle" Smith

Birthplace:           Orange State

Family:                 Wife Kellie / 3 Children

Nicknames:          Ginger Ninja / Gypo / Pissy / Urine Boy / Smudge / Shermanator.

Clubs:                    Irthlingborough Diamonds / Rushden & Diamonds / N'pton Spencer / Corby /
Thrapston / Nomads / Thrapston / Nomads / Thrapston / Nomads / Thrapston / Nomads  (at the time of going to press Smith was still a Nomad - apologies if this is now inaccurate)

Heroes:                 Neil Kinnock / Mick Hucknall / Carol Decker / Ronald Macdonald

Best moment in football:            Being an unused sub when Thrapston won the Junior Cup.

Worst moment in football:         Obviously being sacked by Nomads and Thrapston is hard to take. When I see other managers such as Nathan Eady and Gary Petts winning honours, it really
fills me with regret that I couldn't step up to the plate when it really mattered.

Biggest regret in football:          Leaving Nomads for the 15th time - that really hurt. I love the club when no UCL sides want me.

Biggest influence:                        Gary Petts, he proved that ginger people can be successful in life.

Future Plans:                                I really want to win things with Thrapston......I mean Nomads. I feel I have a point to prove to the Eady Mafia after they forced me out in 2004.

Life after Nomads?:                     When I finally walk away from Nomads or Thrapston I hope to step into fashion. Bhanu Fashions have shown an interest in stocking my own range of "Off White Baseball caps", "Adidas Shit Flicker Trainers" and Oversized Fleeces. Also Poundland are about to stock my own line of aftershave, "Urine Pour Homme".

At the age of 35, and still doing posh paper rounds, Smith is another player who can be regarded as a Nomads legend. When talking about all time players to don the Nomads blue and white, this boy surely is up there with the greats.
